Study in Kassel

The city of Kassel became word famous because of the most important exhibition of contemporary art the “documenta” which takes place in Kassel every five years. The statue of Herkules in the biggest European Bergpark can be seen from far away above the city. It became part of the Unesco word culture heritage in 2013. The upper centre of the region Nordhessen which has about 200.000 residents also offers many study and shopping possibilities and also high qualities leisure activities. The cityscape is characterized by a lively pedestrian area and many parks. All important places can easily be reached because of the excellent Train- and Tram connections and its central location in Germany and Europe. Further information can be found at Kassel’s website.

The study at the Kassel School of Medicine primarily takes place at the Klinikum Kassel as well as at the Kreiskliniken of the GNH and cooperating external hospital associations during study years 3 to 5. The Klinikum Kassel, as a Hospital of Maximum care, is responsible for the treatment of patients from the complete region of Northern Hessen and more. The 31 clinics and institutions of the Klinikum Kassel treat over 55,000 inpatients and more than 175,000 outpatients very year. The highly specialised performance spectrum of all medical disciplines makes high quality multidisciplinary and holistic diagnoses and therapy concepts possible.

At the moment, the Klinikum Kassel is being modernized with an extensive construction project to build lasting structures for modern therapies and a modern study programme. In January 2010 the new central building which hosts admission and diagnosis was already put into service. The new building for paediatrics and gynaecology followed in November 2011. The interdisciplinary Operation tract with modern technical equipment is also located in the new building. At the beginning of 2015 the new and central entrance building was ceremonially opened. It hosts i.e. reception and information area, patient admission, a cafeteria, social services and also a conference centre and a library.

Detailed information about the area structure and quality data and much more can be found here.

Due to the low number of students each year individual needs can be met and the program also offers a close relationship between students and patients and also between students and teachers.

The cooperation between the Kassel School of medicine and the University of Kassel also offers many research possibilities in the fields of biomedicine, biotechnology, psychology and social science in addition to human medicine. Further, students of the Kassel School of Medicine can use the library, the psycho social counselling center of the student service, go to the university sports and go eat at the Mensa for reduced prices.

Please note that the study is still being developed and single requirements can still change. Information’s are correct as of 24th April 2017.
